The Heroes NFT Collection

The first generation of Heroes is a collection of 3,333 on chain NFTs. Each Hero has a base set of traits and stats that was generated in the NFT smart contract when the Hero was summoned (aka minted). The image layers which comprise each Hero NFT are dynamically layered together in the NFT smart contract and the resulting output is an SVG string which includes references to the layers which are stored on IPFS. The IPFS hash of each layer is stored in the Hero smart contract. This was an experimental technique used in an attempt to create robust, decentralized NFTs which were generated and revealed as soon as they were minted.

Hero NFTs are licensed under CC0 which means they can be used as building blocks for the games, stories, and adventures of the future. They are what can be thought of as open source art.

Initially Merlin thought that the community could take these Heroes and build whatever that wanted, but after reflection realized the he could not expect the community to build something as high polished as he imagined and that while the community can build whatever they’d like using the Hero NFTs it would be the responsibility of the Heroes team to execute on Merlin’s vision of a 2D Hero Metaverse.
